Getting Started with Hoopla Digital

Hoopla Digital gives you access to streaming movies, music eBooks, eAudiobooks, and comics.

1. Look for Hoopla Digital under 'Digital Content' on our main page or select eResources where Hoopla digital is listed under eBooks or eAudiobooks. 

2. Once at the Hoopla site, you will need to login or create an account. Click on the blue "Log In" button at the top right hand corner if you already have an account. 

Click the blue "Get Started" button to create an account. Type in your email and create your password then click Continue.

 

Click on the available drop down menu, type "Wheatland Regional Library", and select it to choose it as your library. Click Next.

Enter your library card number and your PIN. Your PIN is usually the last 4 digits of your phone number. You will also need to give permission to Hoopla to verify your information with the library by selecting the check box just after you've typed in your PIN. This just confirms that you have a valid Wheatland library card. Wheatland staff cannot access your account or borrowing history on Hoopla.

3. Once you are logged in, you will be on the main "My Hoopla" page. Here, you can select one of four categories to view what's in it (Audiobooks, Movies, Music, Television), you can use the search bar on the lower half of the screen to find a specific title or you can choose a category from the menu that appears when you select "Browse", found at the top of the screen.

4. To borrow a title you can either hover your mouse over the cover and then choose "Borrow" or you can click on the cover of the item to see more information. You can click the blue "Borrow" button when you are ready to check the item out. 

5. As soon as you press "Borrow" the item is checked out to you. A green bar will pop up to tell you how long you have the item. You can immediately start to watch, listen, or read the item from your browser. 

6. To watch movies in your browser you may need to download the WideVine plug-in. Once you click Play your browser will direct you to the WideVine website were you can download the free plugin. This is already installed on most newer versions of the Chrome browser.

  • All titles are available immediately; no wait lists!
  • You can borrow up to 3 items each month. Your count resets at the end of each month and you can borrow another 3 items. Returning items early does not give you any additional checkouts.
  • Loan periods vary depending on the type of material. Movies are 3 days, Music is 7 days, and eBooks and eAudiobooks are 3 weeks. 

Using the Hoopla Digital App

To enjoy your Hoopla Digital content without an internet connection, you will need to download the item into the Hoopla Digital App. This app is available through the App Store (Apple iOS), Google Play (Android), and on the Kindle Fire. 

1. Search for Hoopla Digital in your app store or on Google Play. Download the free Hoopla Digital app. 

2. Once the app is downloaded, click on the app to open it. 

3. If you already have a Hoopla Digital account, enter your email and password. If not, create an account by clicking "Sign Up". Follow the instructions above about "Getting Started with Hoopla Digital" for assistance. 

4. Any titles you have borrowed will appear at the top of your app. Tap them to open the title up. You can then press Play to enjoy them with an internet connection. 

5. The first time you use the app, you will lots of pop-up screens to help learn to navigate and get the most from Hoopla. To access these again, visit the How-To menu in the My Hoopla section. 

Downloading Items for Offline Use

1. eBooks and Comics borrowed from within the app will immediately download to your device after you borrow them for use without the internet. 

2. To download a movie, audiobook, or music CD to use without an internet connection, click "Download to your device" (Apple) or the picture of an arrow in the upper left hand corner (Android) to begin the dowload. Once the item is fully downloaded, it will be available with or without internet.

Getting Started with Zinio Magazines

Reading Zinio Magazines on Tablets or Smartphones

Zinio for libraries allows you to read full colour current magazines from your computer or tablet. Follow these steps to get started reading. 

1. Look for Zinio Magazines under "eResources" then click on "Zinio For Libraries". 

2. If you aren't already logged in, you will be asked to type in your library barcode (with no spaces) and your PIN number. Your PIN is usually the last four digits of your phone number. 

3. Zinio requires you to create an account before you borrow magazines. Click "Create New Account" in the top right hand corner. If you already have an account, choose "Login". 

4. Once logged in, you can press "Browse Magazines" to see what is available. 

5. You can borrow right away by clicking the small plus sign under the magazine cover. You can also see more information and available back issues by clicking on the cover of the magazine. 

6. Your magazine is ready to read as soon as you click the Checkout button. 

Check Out Information for Zinio Magazines

  • There is no limit to number of magazines you can check out.
  • Magazines do not expire and will stay in your library until you delete them. 
  • There is no wait list; all magazines and back issues are always available. 
  • You will never get an overdue fine! 
  • You can choose to receive email notifications when the next issue is available.

Reading Zinio Magazines on Tablets or Smartphones

You can enjoy your library Zinio magazines on iOS and Android devices as well as on Kindle Fire.

To read your magazines: 

1. Search for "Zinio for Libraries" in your App Store or Google Play. Download the free app. Please note there is a separate "Zinio" app - this is for the retail site and is not the one for the library. 

2. Once the app is downloaded, click on the app to open it. 

3. Click on the "My Library" button. This will be at the top for Android devices and at the bottom for Apple iOS devices. 

4. From here, you can log in to your Zinio account. Enter the email address you used in Step 3 above. Then choose Wheatland Regional Library. Finally enter the password you used when setting up your account. 

5. A list of all library magazines that you have checked out will appear. Tap the cover of the magazine to download your title and read it. Once fully downloaded, you can read your magazine without being connected to the internet. 

6. To check out more magazines, click on "Checkout Magazines". This will launch your browser and take you to the Zinio for Libraries webpage. Any magazines you check out will be automatically synched to your account. Return to the Zinio for Libraries app to download and read your new titles. 

7. When you are done reading your magazines, you can press the "Edit" button to delete them and free up space on your device. Your magazine will be available to redownload using the "Restore" feature.

Setting up Your Tablet to Borrow Library2Go eBooks

How to download books to your device.

For iPad, Kobo Vox, Android tablets, and Windows tablets. 

Please note! The Amazon Kindle is NOT compatible with Library2Go in Canada at this time.

Getting your tablet ready: 

Before you can download books to your tablet, you will first need to download the Overdrive app to your device. 

1. Go to your App Store (Apple), Windows Store (Windows) or Google Play (Android) and search for Overdrive or visit app.overdrive.com on your device and choose the correct mobile version at the bottom of the screen to download the app. 

                                  

2. When you first open the app, you will need to make an Overdrive account. Swipe from left to right or tap on the three lines in the upper left hand corner. Select “Accounts” and then select “Sign up.” Do not choose to “sign up using library card” as this function does not work properly with our login system. If you’ve previously made an Overdrive account, choose to “Sign In” instead.

3. After signing up, you will need to set up the library. Open the menu screen by swiping from left to right. Choose "Add a Library". 

4. Search for “Wheatland Regional Library.”  Select it from the results and then select “Saskatchewan Information and Library Services Consortium.” It is now saved to your app.

5. You are now ready to download eBooks and eAudiobooks right tyo your device! Once you’ve signed in to Library2Go, you will not have to do it again unless you sign yourself out.

6. Having trouble getting started? Visit the Help menu on library2go.sk.ca and view all the setup instructions on your tablet. As tablets vary, this is the best place to go for detailed information specifically relating to your tablet.

How do I download eBooks or eAudiobooks from the library's website?

Click on the Overdrive app on your device. Open the menu by swiping from left to right. If you have saved it, you should see "Saskatchewan Information and Library Services Consortium" at the top. If not, see step 3 and 4 above in "Setting up your Tablet".

Before you decide to browse through the available materials, log in to library2go. Log in by clicking the "Sign In" link at the top right of the library2go webpage. Choose "Wheatland Regional Library" from the drop down menu then click on "Sign In" again. At the next screen, enter your library barcode (no spaces) and your PIN. 

1. Search for eBooks by using the "Collections" option at the top of the screen, by browsing the highlighted collections on the main page or by searching for a title (click on the magnifying glass next to "My account" to open the search bar.)  

2. When you find a book you like, you will see either a blue "Available" bar or  white "Wait List" bar at the top of each book. eBooks work just like regular books: only one patron may have a copy out at a time. If it says "Wait List", this is because there are no copies available right now. You can leave your email address and you be notified when it is ready for you. If it says "Available" then there is a copy ready for you. If you want to borrow an "Available" title, click "Borrow" at the bottom of the book. This will say "Place a hold" if there is a wait list.  

3. Once you click borrow, a bar will appear at the top of the screen telling you how long the book will be checked out to you. To get to your checkouts, click on "My account" and then choose "Loans." Once there, you may be able to select a format depending on your device. Once you have chosen the format for your title, you cannot return the book from the website. Choose "Confirm" on the grey pop-up screen to continue. 

4. Beside the cover of the book you will now see a "Add to App" button. Click the button to download your copy. 

5. Swipe left to right or click on the three small lines in the upper left hand corner to bring up the menu and choose "Bookshelf". You will see your new title. 

6. Once the download has completed, you can start enjoying your eBook or eAudiobook. 

Some Library2Go Tips!

  • You can have up to 10 items checked out at any given time.
  • Items may be signed out for 7 to 14 days and can be renewed once. 
  • If you place a hold on an item, you will have 48 hours from the time the email is sent to check out the item or you may check a box to automatically check out the item when it becomes available. 
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks can be returned early on mobile devices. To return a book early, click and hold on the cover of the book until the options appear and select "Return."
  • To learn more advance features of the app, swipe left to right to bring up the menu and then choose "Help."

Setting up your eReader to Borrow Library2Go eBooks

How to transfer eBooks to your eReader

For traditional eReaders such as Sony eReader, Kobo WiFi/Glo, Nook. 

Please note! The Amazon Kindle is NOT compatible with Library2Go in Canada at this time. 

Getting your computer ready: 

Before you can download books to your eReader, you will first  need to download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer. To do so: 

1. Go to this link to access Adobe Digital Editions or search for it using Google. 

2. On the Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 Installers page, select the one that will work with your computer (either Mac or Windows.) Click on the blue writing to start the download/install process and follow the instructions. 

4. After it is complete, you will be asked if you want to create an Adobe account. If you don't already have one, you MUST get one in order to download library books. There is a link to get a new account on that screen. 

5. If you signed up for a new account, return to Adobe Digital Editions. Choose "Options" and then "Authorize Computer." Enter in the email and password you used to sign up for the Adobe ID. 

6. The first time you plug in your eReader to your computer, you may be asked if you would like to authorize your device. Say "yes." You may be asked to input your Adobe Account information that you just set up. 

7. You are now ready to download eBooks!

How do I download eBooks from the library's website and transfer them to my reader? 

Click Library2Go under "Online Library" on www.wheatland.sk.ca or visit saskatchewan.overdrive.com/

When you find a book you like, you will see either a blue "Available" bar or a white "Wait List" bar at the top of the book. eBooks work just like regular books: only one patron may have a copy out at a time. It will say "Wait List" if there are no copies available to borrow right now. You will be prompted to leave your email address and will be notified when the title is available. If it says "Available" then there is a copy currently available. Click on "Borrow" below the book to check it out or "Place a Hold" to add yourself to the wait list. 

4. Once you click Borrow, the book is checked out to you.  A bar will appear at the top of the screen telling you how long you have the book. You can click on the word “Loans” in the blue bar or click on “My account” and then “Loans.”

5. Once there, you can select your format for downloading. EPUB is the most common format for eBooks, but some titles are offered in PDF format as well. The format will depend on your eReader. Do not choose Overdrive READ format (read in your browser.) 

6. Click on the "Download" button. You may be prompted to download or save. Select "Open" to automatically open the book in Adobe Digital Editions. Users of Google Chrome will only be able to "Save." Click on the saved file to open it in Adobe Digital Editions. 

7. To transfer your book onto an eReader, click on "Library" in the top left hand corner. Plug your eReader into the computer and turn it on. It will show up on the left hand side of Adobe Digital Editions under "Devices". Simply right click on the book cover and choose "Copy to Computer/Device" then select your device from the list. It will transfer instantly. 

8. You can now start reading!

Some Library2Go Tips!

Setting Up Your Audio Device to Borrow Library2Go eAudiobooks

How to download eAudiobooks to your MP3.

Check Compatibility and Getting your Computer Ready:

Check that your device is compatible by going to help.overdrive.com/#devices.

Before you can download books to your audio device, you will need to first download the Overdrive desktop application (if you have an iPod, you will also need iTunes) to your computer. To do so: 

1. From help.overdrive.com/#devices choose MP3 Players. Next, click on the appropriate link for your type of iPod. Otherwise, choose Overdrive for Windows in the Software section. Please note, when downloading Overdrive software, you will have to go to the bottom of the page to find the choices. 

2. Download and install your choice on your computer. 

3. You are now ready to download eAudiobooks! 

Some Library2GoTips!

  • You can have up to 10 items checked out at any given time.
  • Items may be signed out for 7 or 14 days and can be renewed once. 
  • If you place a hold on an item, you have 48 hours from the time the meail is sent to check out the item or you may check a box to automatically check the item out when it becomes available.

3. When you find a book you like, you will see either "Available" or "Wait List." eAudiobooks work just like regular books: only one patron may have a copy out at any one time. It will say "Wait List" if there are no copies available to borrow right now. You will be prompted to leave your email address and will be notified when the title is available. If it says "Available" then there is a copy currently available. Click on "Borrow" below the book to check it out or click "Place a Hold" to be added to the wait list. 

4. Once you click Borrow, the book is checked out to you.  A bar will appear at the top of the screen telling you how long you have the book. You can click on the word “Loans” in the blue bar or click on “My account” and then “Loans.”

7. Once the title is download into Overdrive Media Console, plug in your device and turn it on. Clicking on the "Transfer" button at the top will bring up the Transfer Wizard. 

8. Click on "Next" to select your device and "Next" again. Your audiobook will begin to download. Once completed, click "Finish" to close the Transfer Wizard. 

9. Eject your device and you can start listening to your audiobook.

Getting Started with Press Reader

How to make and use a Personal Account.

Press Reader is an online platform that allows you to read nearly 6000 newspapers and publications from around the world. Follow these steps to get started reading and get the best experience possible.

1. Find Press Reader in the eResources and click on the name to be brought to the website.

2. If you are using Press Reader from home, you will be asked to enter your Library card number and your 4 digit PIN before you can continue.  Do not choose to Sign In again once you are on Press Reader unless you have made a Personal Account.

3. Search for your favourite newspapers and magazines using the Search box in the upper right corner of the screen and start reading! 

Using Press Reader on a Tablet or Smartphone

You can continue to use Press Reader on the go on Android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry devices as well as on Kindle Fire.

1. Search for “Press Reader” in the app store. Download the free app.

2. Once the app is downloaded, tap on the app to open it.  If you wish to be alerted when there is something new for you on Press Reader, click “Ok” to allow it send you notifications. If you do not want this, click “Don’t allow”.

3. To search for a publication, tap on the search box in the upper right corner of the screen. When typing in a publication’s name, it will bring up suggestions. If you see the title of the publication you want, select it and it will bring you to that publication.

4. When you have opened a publication, the most recent edition will be the largest one on the left side. Select it to start reading.

5. If you wish to read older editions of a publication, Press Reader will have those available on the right side. Tap on any of those you would like to start reading.

Making a Personal Account on Press Reader

If you want a more personal experience for yourself on Press Reader, this is how you go about making a Press Reader Personal Account for yourself. With it, you can save your favourite publications so you don’t have to search for them again and again.

1. Go to Press Reader using the steps for Getting Started or open the Press Reader App.

2. To start making your personal account, select “Sign In”, which can be found in the upper right corner of the screen.

3. A pop-up will open asking for you to sign in using a variety of methods. DO NOT SIGN IN WITH YOUR LIBRARY CARD. As a new user, you want to sign up so click the blue writing at the bottom of this pop up.

4. A new pop-up will appear asking you to provide your email address, your name, and to create a password for your new Personal Account.

5. You will asked if you wish to receive emails from Press Reader. Select the check box for Service (recommended).

6. Click ‘Done’. You have now made your Press Reader Personal Account.

Using your Personal Account on Press Reader

You have access to extra features when you have a personal account on Press Reader, allowing to save your favourite publications and view new issues immediately when you sign in.

1. Go to Press Reader through the Wheatland website or open the Press Reader app.

2. Click on ‘Sign In’ in the upper right hand corner to log in to your Personal Account with your email.

3. Search for your favourite publications and select one you would like to save to open it.

4. When using Press Reader on a computer, you can save your publications by choosing the option ‘Add to my Publications’ in the menu on the left side of the screen.

5. When using Press Reader on a tablet or smartphone, you can save your publications by clicking on the star in the upper right side of the screen.

6. To access your saved publications, click on the menu button in the upper left corner of the screen and select ‘Publications’. This will take you to the Publications page where you will find the ones you have saved under ‘My Publications’.
