3D Printer Terms and Conditions

Introduction

This document explains the terms and conditions governing the use of Wheatland Regional Library's 3D Printing Services. By using this service, you agree to abide by the terms and conditions set forth in this document.

Wheatland Regional Library (WRL) reserves the right to revise this document at any time. Notice of revisions will be announced on this page. Continued use of Library printing services by you will constitute your acceptance of any changes or revisions to these terms and conditions.

Wheatland Regional Library assumes no responsibility for 3D printed objects after they are printed.  Objects may have sharp edges. Please use caution when handling your 3D printed object.
 

Terms and Conditions of 3D Printing at Wheatland Regional Library

  1. REQUIREMENTS
    1. To use WRL 3D Printing Services, you must have a Wheatland Regional Library account.
       
  1. FEES AND PAYMENT
    1. The rate for 3D printing is 10 cents per gram, rounded to the nearest gram plus a $1.00 processing fee.
    2. The total grams include the object's weight, its raft, and all supports.
    3. Payment in full is required when you pick up your item.
    4. Items must be paid for in cash.
    5. Rates are subject to review and may change with prior notice.
       
  2. RESTRICTIONS
    1. WRL doesn't guarantee that every .stl file can be printed successfully.
    2. WRL's 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be allowed to use the library's 3D printers to create material that is:
      1. Prohibited by municipal, provincial, or federal law.
      2. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
      3. Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
      4. In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
    3. WRL reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
    4. Only designated WRL staff will have hands-on access to the 3D printers.
    5. Print jobs are limited to a maximum of ten (10) hours.
    6. WRL will not adjust or fix files that are not fit to print.
    7. Do to the nature of PLA plastic, 3D printed items are not food safe.

 

  1. PICKUP
    1. Printed pieces are presented as is, with no cleaning of raft or supports.
    2. Items printed from WRL 3D printers will be sent to the patron’s local library branch during open hours for pickup by the individual who ordered the print job.
    3. Items may also be picked up at Wheatland’s Central office, 806 Duchess Street during open hours.
    4. Payment in full is required at time of pickup.   
    5. Items must be paid for in cash.
    6. Items printed from WRL 3D printers that are not picked up within two (2) months will become property of WRL and may be recycled or used for program examples.
       

Printing Procedures

The procedure for printing from the library's 3D printers is as follows:

  1. DESIGN CREATION
    1. Any 3D drafting software may be used to create a design as long as the file can be saved in .stl or .obj file format.
    2. Digital designs are also available from various file-sharing databases such as Thingiverse.com.
       
  2. SUBMITTING A DESIGN FOR PRINTING
    1. Submit your file (in .stl file format, no larger than 25 MB) to WRL for review.
    2. WRL Staff will review all submitted jobs to provide a cost estimate and confirm print functionality and compliance with WRL's 3D Printing Terms and Conditions
    3. Once we will receive your approval, WRL staff will add your job to the printing queue.
    4. The Library reserves the right to schedule only one print per day per person or entity.
    5. Pickup Times: After printing, you will be notified when your object is scheduled to arrive at your local library branch.  Objects can be picked up during open hours.
