Wheatland Regional Library Press Release April 18, 2006 Wheatland Regional Library Hosts Booker Prize Winner Yann Martel Internationally-known author Yann Martel will visit the Lucky Lake, Eston, and Eatonia branches of Wheatland Regional Library in April, giving readings and answering questions about his work. Yann Martel won the prestigious Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 2002 for his novel Life of Pi, and subsequently spent a year as Writer-in-Residence at Saskatoon Public Library. Following a year spent traveling the world and working on new projects, in 2005 Martel was appointed a visiting scholar at the University of Saskatchewan. He is currently living in Saskatoon, researching and writing his next novel. Life of Pi has been translated into over 40 languages. It has been optioned by Fox 2000 for development into a film. Currently a new edition is being designed, with a world-wide competition for illustrations as part of the publication. Since his first arrival in Saskatchewan, Yann Martel has never hesitated to express his enthusiasm for Saskatchewan libraries and the people who use them. He will read at Lucky Lake on April 27 at 7:30 pm at the Library, in Eston on April 28 at 7:30 pm at the Library, and in Eatonia on April 29 at 2:00 pm in the Eatonia Community Hall. All events are free and open to the public. A reception will follow each reading.
