Wheatland Regional Library Press Release February 1, 2006 Wheatland Regional Library Celebrates Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Week Wheatland Regional Library (WRL) joins libraries across the province in celebrating Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Week February 5 – 11, 2006, with storytelling for children by Tyrone Tootoosis at Warman and Martensville Branches on Thursday, February 9. Warman Branch will host at 10:00 a.m. and Martensville Branch will host at 2:00 p.m. Tyrone Tootoosis is an accomplished storyteller, public speaker, powwow dancer, actor and journalist, and a tireless advocate for indigenous knowledge and culture. He lives in Saskatoon. Wheatland Regional Library is proud to showcase his storytelling skills. Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Week is a Library Services for Saskatchewan’s Aboriginal Peoples Committee initiative. It is held throughout Saskatchewan in February of each year to promote First Nations and Métis oral traditions and the use of public libraries. The winter timing for the Aboriginal Storytelling Week observes the First Nations traditional time for storytelling. Wheatland Regional Library provides library service to the residents of West-Central Saskatchewan through 46 branches and 142 municipalities covering an area the size of Nova Scotia.
